Like most kids on the plant, my little guy is obsessed with slime. If he could play with it every day of the week, trust me when I say that he would. For a while now I’ve been one of those moms who bought the kits and let him mess up the kitchen in major ways. However, I recently discovered that there is no need for kits! Instead, slime can be made quickly and easily (and without nearly as much mess) with a few everyday ingredients and some sequins. Read on to learn how to make this easy rainbow slime that’s perfect for St. Patrick’s Day or any day with just five everyday ingredients.
Truthfully, I never realized how easy it is to make smile and I was put off by the addition of borax in most slime recipes. However, after learning that slime is really a three-ingredient craft (minus the sequins and food coloring), I thought why not whip some up? The recipe for borax-free slime is so simply. It consists of:
- 1 cup of white glue
- 1 tablespoon of baking soda
- 1 and 1/2 tablespoon of contact solution (any old kind will do!)
Easy, peasy right? Just add the glue to a bowl.
Mix in the baking soda.
Optional step: add in some food coloring.
And then pour in your contact solution.
I thought I’d be stirring for hours to get the right consistency but it took less than a minute for the slime to come together and even with using food coloring, it didn’t stain our hands or create a mess. In fact, as the slime formed it almost cleaned the bowl. I’ll NEVER purchase slime kits again because creating this slime was SO easy. Once the base for our slime was made we chose to add rainbow sequins because, well, it’s almost St. Patrick’s Day and my little guy thought it would be fun.
However, you can add any number of items including sequins, glitter, play coins and more! Once we had added our sequins to our easy rainbow slime, all that was left to do was stretch it, pull it and play all day.
This easy rainbow slime can be stored in an air tight container when we’re done playing or we can whip up a new batch the next time we’re feeling the fun slime vibe. Either way, this easy rainbow slime is a fun way to make any day into an experiment that always turns out colorful.

We are a slime-making family. This looks so cool, I have three little grandsons that love to make slime with Mimi!
Oh my gosh it looks really slimy! I can imagine that would look even gooey if it’s green or yellow. 🙂
I haven’t made slime in a coon’s age. I need to do it for myself. I love that feel.
Kids would define loved making and playing this slimy. Are the ingredients safe enough for younger one in case accidentally put it in the mouth?

Same way with my kids. That’s exactly their favorite thing to add in a slime, they love the crackling sound of it.
