With St. Patrick’s Day quickly approaching, we’ve had getting crafty on our minds. My littlest has been off school for weather and holidays so, needless to say, we’ve had all the craft supplies pulled out for quite a while now. I’ve been working my way through some of my favorite crafts with him and coming up with some new ones, like this fun Shamrock Suncatcher Craft that’s perfect for kids of all ages and so much fun to make!
When I think back to my own childhood, one of my favorite things to make were suncatchers. I would hang them on my windows and marvel at the way the light shined through them just right. While sometimes suncatchers are made of glass, I always made them with clear laminating paper as a child so I decided to show my little guy how to make this awesome Shamrock Suncatcher Craft that I knew he would love. First we pulled out all our supplies.
- Green Cardstock
- Self-laminating clear paper
- Scissors
- Light and dark green glitter
- A Shamrock Stencil (just draw a large shamrock on a piece of paper and then cut out the center so the line is about an inch thick)
To start our Shamrock Suncatcher Craft, I quickly stenciled out a shamrock on white paper and cut it out. Then I cut out the center so that the lines of my shamrock were about an inch thick. With my stencil done, I handed it to my little guy and he traced it on the green cardstock.
Once he had traced the shamrock shape, he cut it out carefully.
Once he had his shamrock shape cut out, I pulled out a piece of the laminating paper, removed the backing and laid it out on the table. Then he gently pushed his shamrock cut out down on it, sticking it in place.
As soon as his shamrock was stuck to the laminating paper, he sprinkled the glitter over it, alternating colors to give it a fun effect.
I then helped him secure the second piece of laminating paper on top to hold all this glitter in and create the look of a suncatcher.
Once he cut around the outside edges of his shamrock suncatcher craft, it was ready to hang.
He chose to put it on his bedroom window where the sun can stream through catching the glitter and lighting it up in a fun and fabulous way.
Whether your kids are little or bigger, this fun Shamrock Suncatcher Craft is a perfect way to make their St. Patrick’s Day fun! I hope you will make it with your kiddos and create a fun memory and a fabulous craft!
