It’s no secret that lower back pain has slowed me down as I’ve gotten older. I’ve shared in the past that an aerobics related injury in my 20’s has caused me on and off lower back pain for more than ten years now any time I’m under stress or have lots of tension in my back. I’ve tried several different approaches to help manage back pain but truthfully, I’m always on the lookout for ways to relieve my back pain that I can use on a daily basis. You see, just because my back acts up occasionally, my life doesn’t slow down. I still have to sit at a desk and get work done. I still have to stand in the kitchen and cook dinner. I still have to do all of the daily activities that keep my family’s lives running smoothly. But more than having to do these things, I WANT to be able to manage back pain and live my life the way that I choose to. For those of you who suffer from lower back pain due to any variety of reasons, I wanted to share with you my four easy ways to help manage back pain so that you can get back to enjoying the life you want to live.
Those of us who have back pain often fall into the though process that it’s just something you have to deal with and move on. While I’ve been guilty of this thought process myself, I’ve decided that taking a proactive approach to managing my back pain is a much better way to deal with it. Stretch First Thing in The Morning
For me, taking ten to fifteen minutes in the morning to stretch out my lower back muscles can make a world of different eight hours later. One simple solution I’ve started using is to set a timer so that once an hour, I get up, change position and move around for about ten minutes. I can go for a walk around the house or simply take some of the time to do more of those stretches that I mentioned earlier.
Find Exercise That Don’t Stress Your Back
Exercise is a great way to manage back pain but it’s important to find low-impact exercises that don’t make the pain worse. I am a big believer in everyone finding what works best for them but I personally enjoy biking outdoors when the weather is nice, using the elliptical for a low-impact workout when the it’s cold or rainy and even swimming during the summer months.

My husband has knee pain and he lives by similar rules. Bike riding is pretty much the only form of exercise that doesn’t upset his knee.
I need this in my life! I have several heating pads but having it attach like this would be so much more helpful. Instead, you have to lay flat and it’s hard to get anything done.

I have heard that stretching first thing int he morning is actually terrible for your back because it doesn’t allow your spin to naturally stabilize from sleeping. But I certainly hear more things about ow stretching is good for you in the morning, so I may have ot start doing it and see if it helps my back.
