To say that my youngest son is inquisitive is a total understatement. Ya’ll, he really keeps me on my toes because he always wants to learn and explore and build. From the minute he comes home in the afternoon, he’s trying to take things apart and reading books on how to put them back together. Thankfully, his school has some amazing programs that foster his love of all things STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) and he is involved in pretty much every one of them. He’s had the opportunity to be part of the robotics club, the science club, the video game programming club, and more. If I’m being truthful, most days I have to drag him away from his after school activities. As a mom, that makes me totally happy but it also challenges me because I know that when he gets home, he wants the learning to continue. So, it becomes my job to come up with creative and engaging ways to expand on those STEAM subjects he so loves in the convenience of my own home. I’ve discovered that there are easy ways to bring STEAM learning home with help from KiwiCo!
Now, it’s only fair to tell you that while I’m totally into learning, coming up with my own projects for my son can be challenging. It can require me to spend hours researching on the internet followed by a trip to the store compounded by the task of trying to pull it all together in a way that he will understand. Who wants to do that? I can say that I certainly don’t. Being the dutiful mom that I am, I will do it if I need to but I’m so happy that I’ve found a shortcut that takes all the work out of delivering engaging, age-appropriate STEAM projects that my son can complete from the convenience of our own home. You see, I’ve learned that KiwiCo crates can do all the hard work for me and deliver super cool, hands-on projects that are designed specifically for kids like my son to my front door. These projects focus on STEAM subjects and are divided into age-appropriate crates that include everything my child needs to learn, explore and grow. In fact, receiving his KiwiCo crate is one of the highlights of his month.

Inside of his KiwiCo crate, he receives everything he needs to create fun projects that put him in control of his own exploration. Based on the desire to inspire kids to see themselves as makers and to develop creative confidence that will help them change the world, KiwiCo crates encourage kids to explore through engineering and come up with their own innovative designs and outcomes. While the projects in the KiwiCo crate are fun to put together and challenges kids to expand their knowledge in STEAM subjects, perhaps more importantly, these crates empower kids to do so much more than simply make a project. KiwiCo uses STEAM learning to show kids that they can make a difference. For this mama that’s a huge deal and I know one day my little guy will use all this knowledge he’s gained through exploration to change the world. But for now, it just delights him to discover the projects that are inside his KiwiCo crate.
We recently received our KiwiCo Tinker Crate that’s designed for ages 9-16+ and includes an awesome STEAM project (did I mention that absolutely all materials are included?), a blueprint that provides step-by-step instructions, a Tinker Zine with additional experiments and activities and access to online tutorials with tips and tricks. Once he opened his Tinker Crate, he found everything he needed to create his very own automaton (for those of you who don’t know, an automaton is a moving mechanical device). I adored the fact that this one box had every supply needed for his learning project meaning I didn’t have to run to the store and he was thrilled by the fact that all the pieces were pre-cut and ready to assemble, meaning all he had to focus on was learning and having fun.
Step by step and piece by piece, he was able to follow the included instructions and take what looked like some random pieces of cardboard and wood and transform them into a working automaton.
As he assembled each of the pieces, he began to see how his creation would come together and turn into a working piece of machinery. And once he had completed the assembly, he watched in amazement as he turned the crank and watched the balls climb.
Not only was he excited about completing his automation project that built on the STEAM principals he has learned in school but he couldn’t wait to educate his dad and me on exactly how this project worked and the principles behind why the balls moved the way they did and how they “climbed” the wooden pieces.
Seeing his face light up while working on his KiwiCo project convinced me that I’ve found the perfect way to build on the learning he already does at school and help him master STEAM subjects in an interactive and fun way. In fact, he’s been asking constantly when his next KiwiCo crate will arrive and I can’t wait to see what his next project will teach him.
If your child loves to learn, trust me when I say they are going to love KiwiCo! With age-appropriate STEAM projects that include every material you need to complete your creation delivered right to your door, KiwiCo is the smart mom’s way to bring learning home, make it fun and encourage her kids to fall in love with science, technology, engineering, art and math.
