If your family is anything like mine, you’re looking for ways to spend time together and try new things. My youngest has always loved cooking with me but his busy schedule hasn’t really left time for it. Now that school is out for pretty much the rest of the year and we’ve got plenty of time at home together, one of the things we’re doing is cooking together more. I’ve been pulling out old family recipes and combining math and cooking lessons into a fun afternoon spent together. Add to this the fact, that bread has been nowhere to be found at our grocery store lately and it only made sense that the little guy and I whipped up an easy homemade biscuit recipe. Not only was this fun recipe a perfect way to spend an afternoon together but it’s totally delicious and perfect for when you’re running short on bread. Read on for our homemade biscuit recipe.
Being a Southern girl who was born and raised in North Carolina, I grew up watching my mom and my grandma make biscuits. However, being a busy mom, I’ve always tended to go for the pre-made cans with my boys. However, with all the extra time on our hands right now, I decided to teach my little guy the art of biscuit making that has kept bread in our home.

This homemade biscuit recipe is so easy and so simple and the best part is, chances are pretty good that you have most of the ingredients in your home already. To start I got my little guy to help me measure out the dry ingredients and add them to the bowl of my mixer.
Once all the dry ingredients were sifted together, I let him cut the butter into small pieces using a dull knife. We then added the pieces to the flour mixture.
After using a fork to combine the flour mixture and butter so that it formed a sand like consistency, we added the bowl to our mixer and attached the bread hood. We then added our milk a little at a time while mixing everything together. We then kneaded the dough for five to seven minutes using the bread attachement. Once our dough was a slightly sticky consistency, we added a little more flour to the counter, rolled out the dough about an inch thick and used a round cookie cutter to cut out circles.
We placed our biscuits onto a greased baking pan and cooked them on 450 degrees for 10 minutes, until they had puffed up perfectly and the tops of the biscuits were golden brown. We then removed them from the oven, allowed them to cool slightly and added them to a serving bowl.
This easy homemade biscuit recipe can then be served with honey, butter and jelly or even turned into our favorite bacon, egg and cheese biscuits.
The consistency is light and fluffy and totally delicious and is perfect for enjoying now or freezing for later. If you’re short on bread, looking for a fun cooking lesson with the kids while they are home or a combination of the two, give this simple recipe a try!
