Most everyone knows that two years ago, after eight years of living on a .13 acre lot, the family and I loaded up a moving van and started a new life slightly outside the city limits. I’ll be honest and say that for me, making the transition to our new two plus acre plot of land was a little scary. Add to that the fact that the previous owners had been traveling and hadn’t maintained the landscaping and I was down right nervous! While I had visions of family moments created outdoors, I knew that our new land was going to need lots of work before it was ready to be the thing dreams are made of. Thankfully, I have a hubby who has a very green thumb (in contrast to my black one) as well as some knowledge of TruGreen and the services they provide to help get lawns in their best condition and keep them there. With his knowledge, TruGreen’s services and a few simple yard prep ideas, we’re finally getting to enjoy the fruits of our labors with a beautiful yard that’s perfect for spending time together as a family and even entertaining.
So, I guess the first question I should answer is why does having a gorgeous green yard matter? Well, in addition to being visually appealing, many of my family’s favorite moments happen outdoors and I know for a fact that we’re not alone in that. In fact, according to a new survey conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of TruGreen, nearly two thirds of Americans (156 million) report that some of their favorite memories have occurred right in their own back yards. In addition to those memories, like myself they also think about the appearance that their yard has, not only for them but also for their neighbors. The same survey found that 69% of Americans say having a green, healthy lawn is important to them and 32% admitted to sometimes being embarrassed by the state of their lawn. Now I already told you that last year I was part of that 32% but we’ve done something about it! And now, you can too!
Get your Grass Green
When we moved into our house, our lawn consisted of weeds, moss and red mud. It wasn’t a pretty sight and at times it felt like there wasn’t even a starting point to get our lawn looking great. However, TruGreen that has a variety of plans that can help control weeds, fertilize your current grass and plant new grass in areas where it’s needed. If you’re like me and don’t know the first thing about lawn care, don’t worry because they do! As part of their belief that more life should be lived outside, TruGreen is committed to providing a beautiful lawn to serve as the foundation for outside experiences and lifelong memories.
Plus, since they have a variety of plans that meet every customer’s needs, it’s never been easier to find the help you need to get the foundation of a beautiful lawn!
Keep Up the Maintenance
Once we had our lawn green again (which honestly took about a year to achieve), the most important thing became maintenance. While cutting the grass and watering it is well within my husband’s wheelhouse, there are certain things that are not.
We often think that simply cutting the grass is enough to keep the lawn looking great but more often than not, lawns can do with a little more TLC. If you’re really struggling to get your lawn in tip top shape, try a service like TruGreen that comes to you home and aerates, limes and fertilizes your lawn. As part of regular maintenance, it’s a perfect way to get the most of your lawn. And trust me, it still leaves plenty for your family to do!
Add Pops of Color
While having a great lawn is obviously about the grass, that’s not all that it’s about.
In fact, I’ve discovered that adding pops of color make my lawn look better. Again, I don’t really have green thumb but I do try to go with flowers that appeal to me and that add a beautiful touch to my lawn.
By simply planting a few flowers and hanging a few ferns, I’m able to enhance the beauty of my yard and turn it into a place where I want to spend all of my time.
Take Time to Enjoy It
While for many getting the yard looking great is a hobby in itself, for me taking time to really enjoy my yard and the beauty of being outdoors is the true treat. With summer days quickly approaching, I’m moving all of our family time out into the yard. We’re hanging our enos.
We’re spending time on our porches.
We’re simply enjoying the beautiful place that we live as we eat outside, play outside and relax outside. By turning our outdoor area into a place where we not only want to spend time but want to spend time together, we’re discovering that the best gift of all is unplugging, heading outdoors and making every moment memorable.

You landscaping is gorgeous! We need to do a little sprucing in our yard. It’s starting to show the wear of the years.
I love working in my yard and making it look great. Love the color you have adding with the cushions. Even if you have a small space spruce it up and go outside and enjoy the space.
Wow, I am impressed with your yard. Ours looks pretty sad right now. We’ll be doing more with it at some point. I’d love a hammock.

What a gorgeous lawn! I bet it takes a lot of work and maintenance. One of my favorite lawn tips is to always add something whimsical to your lawn, regardless of the decor of your lawn, and try to make it difficult to find. It can be something as simple as a fairy door on a tree trunk, or a mushroom hidden under a bush. Then sit back and wait, pretend you don’t know it’s there, and enjoy people telling you all about the “magic” they found in your yard.
You yard looks like somewhere I would love to hang out! I can’t wait to have a yard like this!
Your lawn looks amazing. We are planning to get out and work on our property this weekend. I am excited to get my garden growing.

I have been working on my yard to get it ready for my BBQ this weekend. We had a bunch of rain last week so it is nice and green right now. Tomorrow I have to get all the patio furniture out and cleaned up.
We redid the patio so we would spend more time in the backyard. It’s nice to eat outside!
These are some nice ideas. We’re planning to do a lot of work on our yard this summer. I can use all of the tips I can get.
I love doing yard work, it relaxes me! That hammock looks awesome, I want to get one for the summer.
w e work hard every spring to bring our brown ad dead grass after a brutal winter in the midwest to a lovely green. Thankfully we have loads of rain (usually) in the spring. We have our yard and beds serviced as neither my husband nor myself have a green thumb!
I had to definitely work on getting some grass patches back in my yard. There was no getting it greener it was just needing grass to come up in general, haha!
As a city gal this all looks lovely, but also a whole other territory for me! Looks like lots of work, but you do a great job at keeping it beautiful!

Wow I bet your garden is absolutely amazing. We have a small back garden and thankfully as our grass is quite green anyway. However the front has a lot of moss over it so we are trying to tackle that at the moment.

Your home looks so relaxing and welcoming. I can tell you put a lot of work and care into it. I don’t have a green thumb either. I did try planting some seeds this year so will see if they ever grow. Haha.
Your lawn looks absolutely fantastic! My yard needs so much work and you have definitely given me some inspiration.
Your yard is absolutely amazing! The furniture is the perfect pop of color! My kids are dying for a hammock like that!
Wow i love your yard! Looks so clean and beautiful! I need to work on my yard now.
You have a beautiful yard! The grass is so green and the flowers in bloom are so nice! I wish mine looked like that. I try to keep my lawn as green as possible but sometimes I get to see some bald brown areas. Let me talk with my husband and see if it is time to call TruGreen!
When we first bought our home, there’s no plants in the yard and there’s so many weeds so we put weed and feed. I also planted some trees and other flowering plants so now our yard looks better.
Keeping our grass green is a challenge since we get the evening sun when it’s the hottest. It’s like we need constant water on it which is gonna rack up our water bill. UGH!
