Now that it’s officially summer in my home, things are getting a little crazy. With the kids back and forth between camps and all our extra time spent outdoors, it seems like the laundry is piling up. While having a house full of boys ensures that I’m never short on items needing to be washed, summer means that the laundry multiplies. There are towels from the pool, muddy clothes from trips to the creek and bathing suits from running through the sprinkler. Since we’re in and out of the pool and the creek pretty much daily, the boys both tend to go through more clothes than normal during the summer months. While I’ll admit that there are times that I end up shaking my head in frustration, I’ve found that most days a few summer laundry tips and a little help from Tide PODS® Plus Downy laundry detergent pacs ensure that I’ve mastered the task that is my family’s dirty clothes.
Get Multiple Uses
We all know that during the summer months, there are extras that need to be washed. Towels and bathing suits at my house can accumulate quickly (OK, faster than quickly really). For me, it’s important to remember that bathing suits and towels don’t need to be washed every single wear. To make bathing suits and towels last longer between washes, try these two simple tips:
Rinse Sand and Dirt off With a Hose
I always hose my kiddos down after they leave the beach of the creek. At the same time, I spray off their bathing suits and have them empty out their pockets. Removing the sand and dirt ensures that they can get another wear before it needs to be washed.
Hang to Dry Immediately in the Sun
I’ll admit it, my boys both take off their clothes and wad them up, meaning wet summer clothes spoil quickly. We now have a rule in our home that bathing suits get hung on the back porch the minute they are taken off, ensuring that they don’t spoil and can be worn again before they need to be washed.
Invest in Some Extra Towels
One of my biggest laundry issues during the summer are towels. In addition to the towels that are used indoors, we use tons of towels for all our summer fun. While I do try to follow my first tip and get multiple uses out of my towels, I often find that I don’t have full loads by the time clean towels are needed. To combat this problem I buy a few extra towels each summer and cycle them in with my old towels. That way I don’t have to wash towels as often and can keep them on the same rotation that I use for our swim suits.
Use the Same Trusted Detergent for Everything
One thing I am short on during the summer months is time. For laundry to be efficient, I need it to be easy. I’m generally throwing in a load of clothes in between activities and honestly, I don’t want to measure, add or have to think. I want to be able to throw in the detergent, add the clothes and push start. That’s why my trusted Tide PODS® Plus Downy laundry detergent pacs that I use throughout the year are proving to be even more convenient during the summer months (like all household products, keep Tide PODS® out of the reach of children).

After just one wash, I can rest assured that all our summer clothes an clean and conditioned without having to worry about damage that can happen in the wash. Even better, no matter whether I wash on hot or cold, the 4-in-one technology of Tide PODS® Plus Downy laundry detergent pacs that include a detergent, stain remover, brightener and Down Fabric Protect ensures that our summer clothes can keep up with even our dirtiest summer activities.

I love hanging my clothes out to dry in the summer time. It saves electricity and leaves my clothes so fresh!
These are great tips! I always try to work smarter not harder when it comes to laundry. I use those pods all the time.
Tide Pods are the best! I gave them a try a few weeks ago, and I never looked back. They make laundry so much easier.
What awesome tips. We hang our clothes to dry year round (due to Southern California’s weather). I love the smell of clothes fresh off the line.

Tide Pods are awesome! They make laundry so easy, there is no measuring, guess work, or anything involved, you just toss them in and forget about it. Now if only Tide folded the laundry too, I’d be golden!

I love Tide. It’s the only detergent I use.
Love the tip on buying extra towels. Summer is typically when our towels disappear. Kids leave them at camp or one of their friends forgets to bring a towel on that “Mom, we’re going swimming” trip. I use laundry pods all the time. It’s just so simple to just toss and wash without having to measure.
I really need to try the Tide Pods. And oh yes Ahhh nothing better than line dried clothing! Brings back memories of my childhood!

Can’t tell you all the towels we go through in a day around our house during the summer. We have a clothes line and the bathing suits always get rinsed off and hung up to dry. Make life somewhat easier until the next load of laundry.
We definitely do this with the suits. I know that they don’t need to be washed between every wear!
These are awesome tips! I love that you have reminded us to just air dry the suits.
Great tips!! The one about washing off the sand is a great one! Getting sand in the washer machine is horrible to get out!! I love hanging things outside to dry in the summer!
During the Summer we never have enough towels, or swimsuits- I’ve gotten in the habit of hosing things down and sun drying them to try and extend the life between washes. These are great tips!
I think these are great tips. I agree on using the same detergent. I also love using Tide.
I think using the hose to rinse off the mud and sand is a great idea. We use Tide as well. I wouldn’t use anything else.
If there is one thing I want with my new home, it has to be a clothes line. I really, really love a freshly dried blanket off the line.
Washing off with the hose is a great way to keep sand outside. I will have to give it a try this weekend. Tide is my go to detergent.
Hanging the suits and towels outside to sun is a great idea to get multiple uses out of them. I’ll have to remember to do that next time.

Towels are always an issue in our laundry room too. I like the idea of hanging them up to dry but in practice, we’re really bad about remembering! I do love to use Tide though, it’s the best detergent around.
Very useful tips! I used to hang to dry clothes! A great way to save energy!
These are great tips. I make sure to wash the sand out first whenever we’re at the beach and dry them out before I add them to the laundry. I’ve been using Tide for years!
