I am beyond excited that Spring is here. Just over the past few weeks the weather has started warming up, the flowers have begun to bloom, and we’ve been gradually spending more time outside. During these months of the year when the weather is wonderfully perfect for spending long hours outdoors, we love to be outside any chance we get….especially my youngest son. The minute he gets home from school in the afternoons, he throws on his play clothes and either heads out in the back yard or off to baseball or soccer practice and doesn’t come back in until the sun is setting. I’ll be honest and say that I love how much he adores being outdoors. However, those beautiful blooms that I’ve been so excited to see can cause a problem with his allergies. Knowing from being an allergy sufferer myself that being outside is way less fun if you’re coughing and sneezing and stuffed up, I made it my mission to come up with a few tips to conquer children’s spring allergies!
Now, there are a number of ways that we minimize the effect of allergies to keep my little guy playing outside for longer. You see, over the years we’ve discovered that a few easy tips and tricks paired with Children’s Allegra® Allergy Relief is the perfect way to make sure that the only thing he brings inside after playing is a smile! Here’s what’s working for us as well as our tips to conquer children’s spring allergies!
Avoid Your Child Touching Their Face While Playing
When my little guy is outdoors, he’s touching everything! From a baseball bat to the dog to every flower that he happens across, if it’s within reach it’s likely in his hands. During the winter months we try to encourage him not to touch his face to avoid germs so it’s easy for us to use the same thought process with it comes to seasonal allergies. By simply explaining that some of the most commonly touched outdoor items can carry pollen that can make him sneeze and his eyes itch, it’s easy to encourage him to avoid touching his face and instead only touch the items that he’s playing with!
Wash Hands and Change Clothes After Outdoor Play
Just as we encourage him to avoid touching his face while he’s outside to lessen the chance of seasonal allergies, we also like him to wash his hands and change his clothes immediately when he comes inside. Now, I know this may sound a little extreme, but have you watched a seven- year old boy play lately? The hands part is easy to understand but generally when he comes in from playing outside, his clothes are covered in dirt, dog hair and pollen. By simply changing his shower time from right before bed to right after playtime, we’re able to reduce the chances of his allergies flaring up and help keep him feeling his best.
Give Them the Best Children’s Allergy Medicine
While avoiding touching his face and washing his hands and changing clothes as soon as he comes in from playing do make a difference, my most trusted ally in the fight against seasonal allergies is without a doubt Children’s Allegra® Allergy Relief. No matter how much he’ll be outside and how hard he’ll be playing, I love knowing that I can provide a full 12 hours of allergy relief for my son with just a single dose of Children’s Allegra® Allergy Relief.
This long-lasting, non-drowsy, effective, 12-hour indoor/outdoor allergy relief medicine offers relief from common allergy symptoms like sneezing, runny nose and itchy, watery nose and scratchy throat. Plus, it comes in both a great berry flavored liquid that is alcohol and dye free and approved for use in kids ages 2 years and older as well as orally disintegrating tablets in orange cream flavor that dissolve without water for kids ages 6 and older. My son never complains when I give him the liquid in the flavor he loves.
Trust me when I say the taste and effectiveness of Children’s Allegra® Allergy Relief is kid-approved so be sure to get your $3 off coupon for your choice of Children’s Allegra® Allergy Relief products today! If you’re like me, once you add this over-the-counter medication to your child’s routine you’ll discover that being outside is even more fun.
That means that when my little guy spends all afternoon playing baseball or soccer, I don’t worry a bit about his allergy symptoms.
It means that I can breathe easy when he’s rolling around in the yard with the dog, laughing his little head off.
It means that when he comes to me with a bouquet of flowers and says, “I love you mommy!” my first thought is no longer whether or not his gift will make him sneeze and I can instead focus on what a sweet moment this is to share with him.
It means that I have confidence as his mom to let him play harder, be outside longer and truly be a child with one less worry.
It means that my kid can be a kid without suffering from allergies that slow him down.
Where I used to dread Spring and the children’s allergies that it brings, I now have the confidence to let my son get outdoors, play, explore and live life to the fullest without worrying that the simple act of playing outdoors like the child he is will cause him to suffer.

Luckily my kids don’t have hayfever like their poor mom does. I stocked up on Allegra a few weeks ago and make sure to take it every day!
I don’t have any allergies. I thought my boys didn’t either but I actually found myself wondering yesterday if my 18 year old was developing some. I might try something like this to see if it helps if the issue returns.

We love spring as well and enjoy seeing everything bloom and bud out. Our allergies do start acting up. Good to know there is a product to help us stay outside and enjoy spring.
I really enjoyed reading this post. These are very helpful tips! I’m looking forward to using them.

These are some great tips. My daughter sometimes gets allergies, so I’ll keep these in mind. We’re in Texas, so the mountain cedar usually gets us.

It’s so hard to tell them not to scratch or touch their face… even during non-allergy season! When my kids were younger, they were notorious for scratching their eyes all the time. We love Allegra products and still use them to this day (especially since my seasonal allergies are terrible).

Allegra is good stuff! I used to take it when my allergies were at their peak. Your son is likely grateful for the ability to breathe and play and not worry about his allergies.
My boys love baseball, so we have a lot of spring Little League games.

Allergies are just the worst! I remember suffering quite badly when I was a child. It is good there are ways to help try and keep them under control though. Horrid time of year when you feel so rough.

My son is always outside either playing ball or running around with the dogs so he can’t get slowed down by allergies. I like these tips and the Allegra is even better.
My son likes to fly kites. Allergy season is rough right now!
I’m so glad I read this. My 8 year old was diagnosed with seasonal allergies and we are so lost.

I love spring but it does bring along allergy problems for sure. I have one child that gets hay fever bad every year, so I always try to stay on top of it to keep his symptoms low.
Allergies are the worst. I get tired quickly and i sneeze constantly. I use allegra for my self and it is so helpful. Can’t be without it in the summer.
Forget the kids, I need to conquer my own allergies! LOL!! I do love that they make Allegra for kids, the adult version is the only thing that helps me this time of year!!
These are really sensible and practical tips. Washing hands frequently and ensuring kids do not touch their faces with unclean hands probably goes a long way in ensuring that they are less exposed to spring allergies.
We have allergies here, including my kids. We do a lot of these to prevent them. I always make them take a shower and scrub head to toe after being outside. Otherwise the pollen off their clothes will get on their beds and make them keep having allergies.
Having the right remedy for allergies is indeed a great help especially for parents. Thanks for the information. Will definitely share this to my mommy friends and colleagues too.
I am with you with excitement for Spring, I can finally do what I love, gardening. My husband has severe allergy during Spring and that’s the downside.
I use Allegra but didn’t know they had a Children’s Allegra. The allergy med my kid takes is the only reason he’s allowed to go during allergy season. It’s that bad.
